Another Awesome Week for the Challenge Team

Thanks for checking in to see what we've been up to this week. Here's the scoop on our week in room 21...

* We finished our first book club books of the year! We are collaborating on group culminating projects. Be sure to ask your child what their group is working on!

** We have covered 7 of the 8 parts of speech this week. We have been learning the 'job' of each part of speech, sharing examples and using them in our daily journal writing. We also enjoyed a schoolhouse rock clip about each part of speech. Ask your son or daughter what their favorite clip is!

* We wrapped up our first unit in social studies. Graded tests will come home with your child on Monday.

* We honored Brooks today by wearing our Super Hero attire. Thanks to everyone that participated.

* We enjoyed Payday today...ask your child how much money they earned this week.

THANK YOU...for coming to learn about our room and your child's year on Wednesday evening. It was nice to meet all of you and share about our exciting year!

We had an awesome learning week in room 21!

Here are a few highlights of our week...

* Introduced Habit #1 of Happy Kids! Be sure to ask your child about being Proactive and an example of how they might have been Proactive this week.

* Took our first Caesar's English Test of the year! Look for graded tests to come home with your child on Monday.

* We are about half way through our first Book Club book of the year. Ask your son or daughter what book by author, Peg Kehret, they are reading.

* In our reading response journal we focused on basic story elements which included identifying characters and their traits, using the author's words to visualize the setting, identifying the problem in our story, and details that support the problem.

* Our social studies focused on basic geographic vocab words and being able to recall and locate the continents and oceans of the world.

* In grammar we reviewed nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will continue with the other five parts of speech next week.

OUr first week in room 21...

What an impressive first week we had in room 21! I'm truly excited about this year and the wonderful students that make up the Challenge Team this year. We had a week full of reviewing old procedures and learning many new and exciting ones. Here's a peek at some of the things that we discussed last week...
  • assistance letters going home to parents from Mrs. Douce in each student's V.I.P. (Very Important Papers) pocket in the 8-pocket organizer.
  • a reminder going home from Mrs. Klinginsmith about Meet-the-Teacher night next Wednesday evening, August 19th 6:00-7:00 pm for Kindergarten - 2nd Grade and 2/3 GT and 7:00-8:00 pm for 3rd Grade-5th Grade and 4/5 GT.  This year, child care will be provided here at CE!
The link for student care is https://carmelelementarypto.formstack.com/forms/meet_the_teacher.
  • students talking about Paw Pride and what it takes to be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn.
  • an all-school assembly introducing CE's "Follow Me, I'll Lead" initiative. More information to follow at Meet the Teacher Night
  • Students receiving their first job assignments
  • Students decorating their writing journals for the year with their own pictures!

I'm looking forward to meeting a few new faces and seeing familiar ones at Meet the Teacher on Wednesday night at 7:00PM.
